CISPES v. FBI – Government Misconduct – CCR Docket 1987-1988

In June 1987 we filed suit on behalf of the Dallas Committee in Support of the People of E Salvador (CISPES) under the Freedom of lnformation Act (FOIA) because for over a year the Justice Department failed to produce any part of the admitted 17 volumes of materials it has collected on the organization. From documents received as a result of other FOIA requests we have learned that the CISPES materials will corroborate a massive and illegal government spying operation directed against CISPES and scores of other organizations. This program was conducted by the FBI under the rubric of foreign counter-intelligence and national security in order to avoid limitations on domestic or internal security investigations.
